Why Peniel Internship?
Gordon Whitlock once said, “A boy [girl] is the only thing we have to work with to make a man [woman].” For decades, the mission of Camp Peniel has been to bring campers, young or old, to meet God “face to face” through His Son, Jesus Christ, and through the power and work of the Holy Spirit.
We believe one of the ways we can take part in seeing the dark places in our world made bright is by training, equipping and commissioning young adults to be like Jesus to the nations, to co-workers, to family members, to campers and whoever or wherever else the Lord may direct them.
In the book of Matthew, chapter 28, Christ calls His disciples to go to the world with a mission. That mission was not only that the Gospel would be heard, but that disciples would be made. Peniel is obedient to that call of Christ by providing, time, space and challenges which present opportunities for students be fruitful and effective in the world they have been placed.
The Peniel Internship Program(Arrows)is designed to train and empower young adults(18-25 years old) with skills to accomplish tasks within ministry areas and daily life around Camp Peniel. These will help to equip them in future pursuits in life and career outside of camp. Also to develop within each Intern a firm foundation of their understanding of the character and nature of God through studying Scripture, the experience of life in Biblical community and serving the world as Christ’s hands and feet with a message of hope, love and sacrifice. Challenges for growth and development as a man or woman of God will be present every step of the way.
More than goals or achievements, we want to see dreams and passions birthed and directed towards God’s glory. Whether that is on adventures in missions across the world or within the small community of Marble Falls, TX, Arrows desires to provide an atmosphere for growth in being a disciple, not only in belief, but also in lifestyle.
“Disciple. A learner or pupil who accepts the teachings of Christ, not only in belief, but also in lifestyle.” – J. Oswald Sanders
Given that environment, our prayer is that each student will experience the following things during their journey in the Arrows Program:
- Immersion in and studying of God’s Word. (2 Timothy 3:16-17, Romans 15:4)
- Community with other believers. (Acts 2:42-47, Hebrews 10:24-25)
- Learning to serve God by serving others. (Acts 1:8, Matthew 5:16)
- Learning life skills.
- Developing a strong work ethic (Colossians 3:23)
- Becoming financially responsible (Proverbs 3:9)
- Learning how to manage time (Ephesians 5:15-16)
- Learning the value of goal setting and the sense of accomplishment when they see goals reached (Proverbs 16:3)
Daily Life
There is much benefit to living on Camp Peniel property. There are 382 acres of land to hike and explore, providing much opportunity to be away from distractions and seek quiet from the busyness of the world. For 8 months, students of the program will be challenged by godly men and women from near and far while being a resident in camp lodging. Every week will be a new opportunity to display the things learned in the classroom whether plugged into a local ministry or within Camp’s own ministry opportunities. All this happens within the boundaries of community with people that come as close as family.
Program Details
Our next program runs from September 4, 2022 thru May 7, 2023. Major portion of the Arrows Intern Program is working in ministry areas of Camp Peniel. Each participant is required to work in a ministry area Tuesday thru Thursday and attend class on Fridays. The rest of the week will be time spent with God and the “camp family,” serving in local ministries, and in-depth Bible studies during different nights of the week.
