Camp Peniel is a community of believers whose chief purpose is to testify to God’s saving grace through the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Our purpose is not to teach and preach Christ’s love but also to personally transformed by it as those who have experienced God’s merciful forgiveness and redemption. While the Statement of Faith provides the benefits which we all share as part of this community, this Covenant & Commitment document outlines our pledge for living as redeemed members of Christ’s community as we serve the Lord at Camp Peniel.

As a Board member, Endowment Board Member, employee, or volunteer:

  1. I commit to pursuing Christ-centered convictions.
    • Camp Peniel is uncompromisingly Biblical, therefore, all that I do, say or teach is to be an expression of my love for and belief in God’s inerrant Word
    • Camp Peniel is relationally-centered, therefore I will seek to foster personal growth in myself and others by following Jesus’ model of investing personally in the lives of others.
    • Camp Peniel is comprehensively Christian, therefore, I recognize that every area of my life and speech needs to reflect Christ, as I am a new creature whose life is in submission to my great and glorious King.
  2. I pledge to be obedient to the Scriptures by joyously striving to obey all that God has commanded.
    • I will show evidence of the Holy Spirit Who lives within me, by demonstrating “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, patience, and self-control.” (Gal. 5:22-23)
    • I will “put on” compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness, and love. (Col. 3:12-14)
    • I will seek righteousness, mercy, and justice, particularly for the helpless and oppressed (Prov. 21:3, 31:8-9; Micah 6:8; Matt. 23:23; Gal. 6:10)
    • I will love and side with what is good in God’s eyes, and abhor what is evil in God’s eyes (Amos 5:15; Rom. 12:9; 16:19)
    • I will uphold the God-given worth of human beings, from conception to death, as the unique image-bearers of God (Gen 1:27; Psa. 8:3-8; 139:13-16).
    • I will uphold chastity among the married (1 Cor. 6:18) and the sanctity of marriage between one man and one woman (Matt. 19:4-6; Heb. 13:4).
    • I will be a person of integrity whose word can be fully trusted (Psa. 15:4; Matt. 5:33-37).
    • I will give faithful witness to the Gospel (Acts 1:8; 1 Pet. 3:15), practice good works toward all (Gal. 6:10; Eph. 2:10; Heb. 10:24; 1 Pet. 2:11), and live a life of prayer and thanksgiving (1 Thess. 5:17-18; James 5:16; Titus 2:7-8).
  3. I will strive to turn away from evil (Prov. 3:7) and all that God has condemned.
    • I will not practice pride, dishonesty, injustice, prejudice, immodesty (in dress or behavior), slander, gossip, vulgar or obscene language, blasphemy, greed, and materialism (which may manifest themselves in gambling), covetousness, the taking of innocent life, and illegal activities (Prov. 16:18; 1 Cor. 6:10; Exod. 20:7; Rom. 13:9; Col. 3:8-9; James 2:1-13; Gal. 3:26-29; Rom. 13:1-2; 1 Tim. 2:8-10; Heb. 13:5-6).
    • I will not practice hypocrisy, self-righteousness, and legalism, understand as the imposition of extra-biblical standards of godliness by one person or group upon another (Acts 15:5-11; Matt. 16:6; 23:13-36).
    • I will not adopt sinful attitudes and behaviors such as “impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies and the like” (Gal. 5:19-21).
    • I will not practice or condone any behavior that dishonors, belittles or destroys the uniqueness of human persons, who, as males and females, have been created in God’s image (Gen 1:27), including (but not limited to) racism, murder, euthanasia, and abortion.
    • I will not practice or condone sexual immorality, such as the use of pornography (Matt. 5:27-28), pre-marital sex, adultery, homosexual behavior or any other sexual relations outside the bounds of marriage between a man and a woman (Rom. 1:21-27; 1 Cor. 6:9-10; Gen. 2:24; Eph. 5:31).In short, I commit to live daily as a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, to serve His Kingdom, to live in obedience to His Word, to preach His life-giving Good News to those who are spiritually lost, and to equip and encourage my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ to also serve faithfully.
