Communicating With Your Camper

Please Do

  • Write letters, by hand.

  • Address the letter with the camp session and camper's name.

  • Be creative.

  • Take time to do a good job, a good letter can take time to write!

  • Send an occasional email or fax if you like, not as good as a letter but still good.

  • Write often, as much as you can.

  • Have your friends and relatives write as well.

  • Allow plenty of time for “snail mail” to work. Send the first letter several days before camp opens… that way there is a letter waiting for them when they arrive (make sure you write the camp session on these early letters, since we need to hold them for your arrival).

Please Don’t

  • Give your camper a cell phone, these are not allowed!

  • Ask your camper to email you, she can’t!

  • Send lots of packages (see note below).

  • Send any food other than fresh fruit.

  • Send more than one package to your camper.

Letters

Campers love to get letters! There is something special about a hand-written letter that sets it apart from faxes or emails. We strongly encourage you to send hand-written letters for your camper to cherish at mail call (every day after lunch). Since "snail mail" can take three to five days for delivery, preparation (send letters even before camp begins) and patience are necessary--but a hand-written letter is often kept for years, while emails are thrown away quickly. Take the time to write a letter; we think this is one of the most memorable parts of a camping experience.

Example: Letter Address

Camper Name / Cabin #
Camp Peniel
6716 E. FM 1431
Marble Falls, TX   78654

Email

Hand written letters are what campers most love, but we also deliver emails at mail call (if received by 10:00 a.m. Monday – Friday). Only registered family can send campers email through our password protected photo and email service. Each individual email will be charged to the sender on the account that they are sending it from. There will be a charge of $1 per email. Be sure to use all that you purchase. There will be no refunds for unused email. You will also want to be sure that you have not given out your user name and password. Anyone who has your user name and password would be able to send emails on your account. You will have the ability to change your user name and password if such a problem occurs.

Campers will not electronically respond to email.

Getting Ready For Camp
Packages

It is unnecessary to send your camper any gift packages at Camp Peniel. Camp is a gift sufficient for anyone--but parents sometimes send care packages for special occasions. We ask that you voluntarily limit your camper to one care package per session. This rule does not apply to those celebrating a birthday or necessary items requested by your camper. If you send a package, please abide by the following rule:

No candy or snacks. (Fresh fruit is the exception to this rule and can be sent any time.) We open packages with the campers and confiscate any non allowed food items.

Care Packages are offered “From The Heart” for our campers.  This package is pre-ordered by you and delivered by us.  It is designed for those parents who must send one package and wish to save on postage expenses.  We always put together a package with lots of smile-making surprises inside.  The cost for is care package is $25.  Upon registration, remember to go by the camp store to sign the card to accompany your gift package.

Faxes

Campers may send and receive faxes through the normal camper mail. The Camp Peniel Office handles this service for a charge of $.50 to receive and $3 to send a fax. Please note that we encourage campers to write letters to their parents and friends, sending them by U.S. Mail. Please address faxes with both your camper's name and cabin number.

Thinking about a visit during the camp? Being away from your child can be hard, and they are sure to miss you! However, visiting at camp can cause many disruptions. Because of this, we discourage any visitors. We want your child to have the best experience at camp, and visiting them at camp would only be a hindrance to their time here.
