Trail rides - These horses are well-behaved on the trail and able to withstand a whole day’s work.
Blondie

Taz is a wrangler horse, and has been known to be a talking horse! He is used often for horse devotions. He has one blue eye and one brown eye. Taz is a Louisiana native, and he is part Paint, part Quarter Horse, and part Arabian. He always has a lot of energy and is very mischievous.

Gus is the legendary camp donkey. He was 30 years old in 2006! He has been at camp for many generations. He and Cochise are best friends. Gus usually likes to be petted, but it is against the rules to ride him because he is not trained and he is too small and old.

Spiderman

Sarge is a small framed sorrel horse. He is used for trail rides and classes. He came to camp in 2005. He has lots of energy.

Rusty is a red Welch pony. He is the smallest equine at camp besides Gus, the donkey. Rusty is always used for pony rides. Although his size is small, his attitude makes up for it. He thinks he is a very big horse. He has taken hundreds of kids on their first horse ride.

Rascal is a beautiful roan Quarter Horse. She is one of the best class horses and also a great trail horse. She performs well and usually stays very healthy. She doesn’t like for other horses to get close to her, though. Rascal was 16 in 2006.

Oreo is a black and white Paint horse. He has been at camp for a long, long time. He was 18 in 2006. He is a good trail horse and class horse. He is smart and personable.
Rocky is a sorrel horse with a star on his forehead. From a distance, it is hard to tell him and Maggie apart. He is a great trail ride horse, and is being trained for class use. Rocky was born in 1996.
Maggie is a sorrel horse. She is a great all-around camp horse who is used for classes, trail rides, and pony rides. She stays fat year round!
Jack is a younger, sorrel camp horse who came in 2005 when he was seven. He has been going through some training and has become a pretty good class horse and trail horse, and also makes a great wrangler horse. He and Rocky are best friends when they’re in the pasture.
Eve is an older, bay Fox trotter. She is a small-framed horse, so she is ridden by smaller people. She is very sweet, and she is used for classes, trail riding, and pony rides.
Cochise is a tall, beautiful brown and white paint horse. He was the tallest until Bandit came. He was born at camp over 20 years ago. His mother, Sunday, was a great Camp Peniel horse for many years. Cochise has been a wrangler horse all his life.
Captain is an appaloosa who was donated to camp many years ago. He is a wrangler horse only because he has a lot of energy!
Boomer is another bay registered Quarter Horse. She is one of the oldest horses at camp, and also one of the newest. She came in the summer of 2006 right before Bandit. She was a show horse before she came to camp to retire from showing. Now, she is used a lot for classes and for some trail rides, but due to her age, she doesn’t usually work all day long.

Class - The class horses have had more training and may or may
not be healthy enough to work all day long. They respond
well to cues and multiple riders.
Buddy,
a sorrel horse, used to be a ranch horse before he
came to camp. He and Ricco came from the same ranch.
He is extremely sweet and loves to be ridden. He is
used for everything- pony rides, trail rides,
classes, and as a wrangler horse.

Pony rides
- Camp Peniel only allows kids 9 years old and older to ride by themselves. Anyone younger can ride, but must be led by someone. Pony rides are offered during weekend camps and at summer day camp. Horses used for pony rides are usually smaller and more gentle.
Little Black is a black pony mix. She is short, round, and has a
loose bottom lip. Her mane is very thick. She is
sweet and is usually used for pony rides. Despite
her laid-back attitude, she can work as a class or
trail horse too.

Wrangler use - Wrangler horses are ones that need extra care with their handling due to less training,

Foxy is a brown Quarter Horse mix. She is a great class and trail riding horse. She has lots of style and attitude, and can do just about anything in class.
extra energy, or other reasons. Any horse is subject to becoming a wrangler horse temporarily if they misbehave! However, sometimes the wrangler horse is simply a very reliable horse, or the wrangler's favorite.

Bandit is a bay registered Quarter Horse and is the newest addition to the Camp Peniel horse herd. He is used for classes and as a wrangler horse. Bandit was donated to camp in the summer of 2006. He and Boomer look a lot alike, except Bandit is larger. He is the tallest horse at camp.
