Meet the Staff

/files/Images/Staff/Family Pics 006.jpg

My name is Brian Anderson and I have the privilege of serving as the Executive Director of Camp Peniel. My wife Kristine and I have four children: Alyssa, Ben, Jenna & Elliana, and we are excited to share in the rich heritage of Peniel and the blessings of how God will transform lives!

Christian camping provides a unique and powerful environment where people can come away from the day-to-day stressors of life and experience God’s love, challenges, and refreshment. God has used Camp Peniel to have an impact on thousands of lives over our 60+ years of ministry! I look forward to partnering together to share God’s message of salvation and help young people and families strengthen their relationship with Him.

Don Barber: I have been involved with Camp Peniel in several capacities since I was 12 years old. It was as a camper that I had my Peniel ‘face to face’ encounter and put my faith in Christ. Through many of the remaining summers I worked on the teen work crew, then as a counselor, and program director. After graduating from SFAU and being in teaching and coaching for several years, Mary Edith and I married and moved to Marble Falls. Mary Edith is the daughter of Gordon (Chief) and Alice Whitelock, founders of Camp Peniel. We both continued working in the schools and helping out at camp. I also served several terms as a camp Board member.  After retiring from the school system I served as Executive Director for Peniel several years before resigning that position. I now assist as Ambassador for camp. We are blessed with having three grown children, Kelly, Josh and Jess and four grandchildren.

I'm Jess Barber and I graduated from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor with a biology degree and have served at camp full-time for 6 years. As Summer Director, I oversee the different summer programs, direct boys camp, and work with the summer staff. I humbly carry on the legacy of Camp Peniel’s tremendous ministry which began with my grandparents, Chief and Alice Whitelock, the founders of Camp Peniel.

/files/Images/Staff/blackmon family.jpg   Hi!  We are Jason and Jenny Blackmon. We love being able to completely focus on the ministry here. Jason is on the maintenance crew. He enjoys tackling the wide variety of projects every day. He also enjoys helping in the programming aspect of camp whenever he is available. I am the Girls Camp Director. I love working with the staff to make summer camp a time of fun and growth for the girl campers. I also enjoy promoting camp at different events and parties and meeting new people. We have two beautiful daughters, Journey Rose and Jacie Grace.

Howdy!  I'm Kelly Kirkpatrick and I am the Equestrian Director here at Camp Peniel. I am so thankful to be able to serve God by using our horses and the knowledge I have with them, to teach visitors about the love of Jesus Christ. I am excited to be able to serve and minister here along with my wife, Michelle and our three sons, Keegan, Rory and Kellan. Come by and visit us, we’d love to get to know you!

/files/Images/Staff/shawna_2.jpg I'm Shawna Brown, and my involvement with Camp Peniel began when I was a young girl camper. I loved it then and count it a blessing now to serve the Lord in this ministry. He has given me the opportunities to serve as head wrangler, handcraft director, assistant cook, and for the past four years, as Food Service Director. I pray that God’s love and encouragement will be seen through this “tasty” area of Camp. My husband, Scott, and I have three beautiful daughters, Sawyer, Sloane and Sydney and one delightful young son, who goes by "Scooter".

I'm Gwyna Compton and I serve as Assistant Cook and have been one of the faces of camp since 1968.  I was one of the first employees of Camp and worked in the laundry.  Three years later Gordon (Chief) "promoted" me to the kitchen.  I moved to Marble Falls in 1978 and haven't slowed down yet!  You can always find me in the kitchen preparing the great home cooked meals we have come to enjoy!

Hi there! My name is Kurt Cotter and I am the Director of High School Ministries here at Camp. I have been involved with Camp for a good bit of my life. I served on Work Crew for 4 years and then was a counselor in 2004 & 2008. In 2009 I served as the Work Crew Director and immediately knew this was the type of work I wanted to do full time. I plan all throughout the year for Work Crew the High School Camps.  I also assist the other Directors in recruitment of Summer Staff and planning for Staff Training. There is great comfort in knowing that I am where God wants me.

Hello, my name is Renee Hauck.  I came on staff April 2008 as Office Assistant.  Camp Peniel has been a big part of my life as well as my family's.  I am the daugter of Gwyna Compton and have been blessed with the opportunity to live and work at Camp.  I am blessed with a wonderful daughter, Rosie and her husband, Chris, and four grandchildren Kristyn, Trey, Kyle and Christian.

I am Art Hawkinson.  I came to Camp Peniel in 1989 when Chief asked me to be Business Manager.  I was on the Board at the time and retiring after 35 years as a geologist and exploration manager in the oil industry.  Joe Coulson told me the accounting was easy, but I soon found myself back in college for some accounting.  Here at camp I manage the computers, accounting, payrolls, and handle general business.  For many years I directed the Resingled Camps, along with my wife Carol, who volunteers occasionally.  We have 6 children and 18 grandchildren.  They all love to come to camp and have come in many roles over the past 35 years.

Hi I'm Donna Kiley and I've truly been blessed to work as Office Manager since 2002.  I work on the website, brochures, newsletters, take registrations and anything else that may need to be done in the office during the week.  My husband, Bill, and I have two children, Trevor and Sarah.  We have come to call Camp Peniel our home away from home.

I'm Ben Weagant, the son of Dale and Kathy Weagant.  Naturally, I was raised at camp and grew up learning so much from my Heavenly Father, as well as my earthly father. For the past 21 years I have worked at camp first as the assistant ranch manager then as Ranch Manager.   My wife, Susan, volunteers at camp teaching Bible studies and is an accomplished author.  We have two children, Micheal and Matthew.
/files/Images/Staff/dale and kathy.jpg Dale and Kathy came to came in 1960. Kathy graduated from college, they got married and three days later they came to Camp Peniel. Dale has served as Boy's Camp Director, Work Crew Director and lead many Expedition Trips. Not too many years ago he passed on the baton of Ranch Manager on to his son, Ben Weagant. Kathy and Dale are in charge of the Trading Post and still wear many hats when anything needs to be done! We congratulate them on their 50 years of service.

Sam and Dorothy Zuckero met at camp during high school.  They were married by Gordon Whitelock.  Upon retirement, they moved to Marble Falls to become full time volunteers.  They have been here for the past 10 years and I can't imagine what we would do without them.  Sam keeps the grounds looking great while Dorothy helps in the office.
